ReCreation Experiences is a 501 ( c ) ( 3 ) faith based not for profit program. Founded in 1990, the ministry grew out of a desire to provide quality mission experiences where both the people receiving the work as well as the people doing the work grow through the experience. The mission statement “Sharing Our faith Through Home Repair Mission” reflects the commitment on the part ReCreation Experiences and the teams who work with us to provide quality work and service. ReCreation Experiences grew out of five core concepts. These are foundation “building blocks” that continue to keep us balanced and in tune with meeting both the needs of work teams and the clients who receive the assistance we provide them.

BLOCK ONE: All persons are entitled to warm, safe and dry housing conditions. It is a God granted right that everyone should have and enjoy. Sometimes due to financial circumstances this right is difficult to maintain or obtain. As people of faith, it is our responsibility to continue finding ways to better provide for the housing needs that exist in our community.

BLOCK TWO: ReCreation Experiences will establish and foster a solid reputation for providing quality programs that are safe and affordable. We strive to be excellent "stewards" of the people resources and the financial resources we work with.

BLOCK THREE: ReCreation Experiences will have programs of integrity where both the client who receives the assistance and the workers providing the service feel they are a priority of the ministry. We serve you so you can serve others!

BLOCK FOUR: ReCreation Experiences will connect a desire to work on the part of the work teams, with a viable need. The work teams will perform legitimate work that meets a qualified need of a homeowner. The work will benefit the homeowner in the long term. More than just yard or cosmetic busy work, the work performed will fill an immediate need or will be preventing a future problem to occur. The work we do will allow the standard of living of the homeowner to be at a higher level than before the work was performed.

BLOCK FIVE: Affirm our faith-based emphasis, stressing that it is our responsibility borne of our individual and corporate experiences to both reach out and serve our neighbors in need.

Be doers of the Word and not hearers only...
(James 1:22)

"Sharing Our Faith Through Home Repair Mission"

We are, involved in the rehabilitating of homes which in turn provides for the rehabilitating of neighborhoods, communities, and most importantly, the lives of the residents and their neighbors.
We are, involved in the education process of a generation of young people, their adult leaders, and their churches or supporting organizations. We partner the need of the low and median income population of our area, with an individual or groups desire to serve that population through home repair. The result is the client is assisted and the awareness on the part of the worker to the need that exists and their ability to help meet that need is heightened.
We are encouraging the development of programming that our partner work teams can create in their own communities. These programs will assist in addressing the issues of poverty, substandard housing and other issues that affect the poor in their own home areas.

ReCreation Experiences provides a faith based outlet for individuals and groups who feel called and compelled to respond to these issues out of their sense of faith. Our volunteers and work teams extend assistance to those who have a need for home rehab assistance. In doing so, a problem is fixed, a life touched or changed, and the mission of ReCreation Experiences is one step closer to be being fulfilled.

All clients who receive assistance from ReCreation Experiences have been qualified through the programs procedures for identifying need. The client is qualified financially and the home is qualified based on Substandard housing guidelines as set forth by a regional housing consortium. All clients of ReCreation Experiences fall at or below 100% of the Federal Poverty Guideline.

The majority of clients are elderly on fixed incomes. For many of these, a choice has to be made each month between buying food or medicine. At the end of the month there are no financial resources left over to provide maintenance or repairs on their homes. The second population ReCreation works with is the working poor. This is a population that consists of working individuals or couples who have jobs but whose income is not adequate to provide a surplus for home repair needs.

There are many issues that determine sub-standard conditions for the home, some of those are:

Roof in need of repair or replacement
Walls pulling away from the foundation
Rotting floors or porches pulling away from the house
Improper electrical service
Lacks plumbing facilities

It is estimated that Buncombe and Madison counties (our areas of work) have over 20,000 owner occupied sub-standard properties in them. ReCreation Experiences works on 40 to 50 of these homes per year. We have a lot of work to do and a long way to go before we ease the problem in our area.
